Toronto Airport Tunnel Moving Forward

A pedestrian tunnel linking Toronto to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is expected to begin within a month, according to reports. Geoff Wilson, president of the Toronto Port Authority, told the Toronto Star that a groundbreaking ceremony for the tunnel is set to take place sometime in February.

The Toronto Port Authority announced in November that was entering into negotiations with Forum Infrastructure Partners to build the public-private partnership pedestrian tunnel to the airport.

Forum Infrastructure Partners is a consortium led by Forum Equity Partners, developer & equity provider; PCL Constructors, construction contractor and Canada’s largest and most diversified construction firm; Johnson Controls, facility manager; Arup, lead designer with an international team of designers that includes ZAS Architects and Exp geotechnical engineers; Technicore Underground, tunneling contractor; and Nord/LB, debt capital provider.

Targeted completion date is spring 2014.
