City of Austin Announces Mandatory Pre-bid Meeting for Waller Creek Tunnel Project

The City of Austin (Texas) invites tunneling companies to attend a vendor conference for a flood control tunnel on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (Rehearsal Lab), 600 River Street, Austin, Texas 78701 at 10:30 a.m.

Refreshments will be served. There will be a networking session immediately following the Pre-Bid meeting. The pre-bid meeting is mandatory for all companies interested in bidding on the tunnel project.

The Waller Creek Tunnel – Main Tunnel & 4th Street Creek Side Inlet Project, estimated at $40 million, consists of construction of a flood control (main) tunnel, via conventional tunnel methods, from Waller Beach to Waterloo Park and two connector tunnels to capture intervening drainage at 4th/5th Street and 8th/9th Street along Waller Creek. The main tunnel consists of 3 segments, 26.5/22.5/20.5-ft finished diameter tunnels. Segment 1 is connected to the Outlet structure (separate contract) by a 26.5-ft finished diameter tunnel and extends approximately 2,275 lf northward, including a 100-ft transition to Segment 2. Segment 2 is a 22.5-ft finished diameter tunnel and extends approximately 1,570 lf northward, including a 100-ft transition to Segment 3. Segment 3 is a 20.5-ft finished diameter tunnel and extends approximately 1,490 lf northward, connected to the Inlet structure (separate contract). The 4th/5th Street connector tunnel is 22.5-ft in diameter and extends eastward approximately 223 lf from the tie point at the main tunnel to the 4th Street shaft. The shaft at 4th Street consists of a 17-ft diameter finish. The 8th/9th Street connector tunnel consists of a 22.5-ft in diameter finish and extends eastward approximately 40 lf. This work also consists of constructing a creek side inlet and debris screening structure within the east bank of Waller Creek and approximately 280 lf of creek restoration between 4th and 5th Street.
